The Way a 6 Year Old's Mind Works

So I guess my nesting instinct has kind of kicked in.  This morning I told Megan that I was going to clean her room and take out a lot of stuff, like her desk, because it's always a mess.  So next thing I know she comes out of her room saying that she just cleaned her desk.  I went to look and yes her desk was much cleaner but where did the stuff go?

I had a good laugh.  She had put it on her bed and Mattey's.

So after a few hours and a trash bag full of junk later this is how her room looks.

I hope that it can stay some what clean for a while, but I'm not too hopeful.  I told her that I did the hard part and now she can keep it up because there are no more toys in her room or paper products to make the mess.

Maybe That Wasn't Such a Good Idea

In one of my prior posts, I was talking about how we had learned to play Canasta at a friend's house and how we should add this game to our collection. Well we did and now I’m wishing we didn’t. I thought I was pretty good at learning different card games and picking up their different strategies. Obviously I was wrong, because I have yet to win the stinking game. I am 0 for 2 when playing with a partner and after last night I am 0 for 3 when playing against my wife. She has the uncanny knack of getting a lot of points and leaving me stuck with a bunch of cards in my hand, which is not good.

I will not give up, although it gets rather depressing at times, I will triumph. I’m just not sure when that will be.

Kids Say The Darndest Things

Sometimes kids say things that just totally catch you off guard. Yesterday, while on the way to Megan's Book Fair, we had quite the laugh. Kelly was driving and was trying to find an opening in traffic to pull out into. In order to make an opening she sort of peeled out a little bit. From the back of the van, Megan yells, "Mom's driving like an elephant!" We all just started laughing and then Mattey chimed in, "Elephant’s don't drive!" I guess to get the whole effect you had to be there, but it was hilarious!

Happy Valentine's Day

On this Valentine's Day (and every other day) I am especially thankful for my sweetheart and for all that her friendship means to me.  She is a wonderful companion and I am eternally grateful to have her as a partner in raising our two, and soon to be three, wonderful children.  I love you Sweetheart!

Megan is having her Valentine's Day party at kindergarten today and of course, her Mom will be there to help.  She is very lucky to have a Mom who is so willing to help out.  Happy Valentine's Day Meg!  I love you!

Mattey had her party last Friday and she came home from school with all kinds of goodies.  Happy Valentine's Day Mat!  Daddy loves you!

Happy Valentine's Day to all!

Porting Experience

Last week I got a new cell phone from Amazon.  As of November 24, 2003 wireless customer have had the opportunity to keep their existing numbers even when changing wireless providers.  This process is called porting.

Well this past week I experienced a porting nightmare.  I started the process by calling my new wireless provider on Saturday.  They verified all my information, about my then current provider and said the porting process would happen the next day because I made the request late on Saturday night.  No problem.  They said I would receive a text message telling me when the porting was completed.

Sunday came and went and no text message, so Monday I started the phone war.  I called my new provider, who said there was a problem with my old provider, then I called the old provider and they said there was a problem with the new provider.  You know the finger pointing routine of it's not our fault it must be their fault.  Anyway I thought I left it in the capable hands of a customer service representative on Monday night after being on hold for forty minutes.

Along came Tuesday and still no text message.  After four more calls back and forth between providers I finally reached my breaking point.  I had to raise my voice a little bit and then magically I was transferred to a representative who was ready to help me in any way possible to solve the problem.

This was the person I needed to speak with from the get go.  Peter was the man!  He started by including me in the conference calls with the service providers, then when it was apparent that they still weren't getting any where he offered to continue the leg work and call me back in an hour.  Thank you for not making me wait on hold like the other representative did the night before.  He ended up calling me back a couple times.  Finally someone who is willing to work for the customer.  He even got me a $20 credit on my account for all the headaches I went through.

I'm happy to report that we finally had porting goodness the next morning around 5:00am.  I now have a new cell phone with the same old number, just the way it's supposed to work.

What Can't They Do?

Google has just posted the beta version of Google Maps.  I like this much better than Mapquest and will now use this for all my mapping needs.

New Card Game

We went over to some friend's house for dinner and played a new card game.  We learned how to play Canasta.  We played a version called Canasta Caliente.  This version is played with a special deck of cards where as the normal Canasta can be played with two decks of normal playing cards.  Even though the boys lost to the girls, this was a really fun game.  We'll have to add it to our collection of games.

Euchre Champions

My work held a special Euchre tournament this week to
celebrate our company's success. A co-worker and I decided to enter the
tournament at the last minute.  There were thirty teams entered into the
tournament.  The team name we decided on
was Standing Kowz, which was a combination of our last names.  We played well together all week.  Today we
won our Semi-Final game 10 - 2 to move into the championship game, which was
also held today.

The championship game was best two out of three games.  We lost the first game 10 - 9, which put us in the hole.  The second game was another
close one.  With our backs to the wall most of the game, we came back and won the second game.  The third game we finally hit our groove and
won 10 - 5 to capture the euchre championship.  It was a lot of fun.

Another co-worker sent me this great picture.  It's the perfect logo for our winning team.

Groundhog Day

Quoted from CNN, "Punxsutawney Phil has spoken, and the news isn't good".  The poor critter was drug out of his burrow and saw his shadow which means six more weeks of winter.  Bummer, I could have dealt with Spring coming earlier.

The official Groundhog site is really busy right now, but they have all the details.
