Playing Catch Up: Dates With Dad

I have had good intentions about posting about each of my dates with the kids, but for some reason I have not sat down and followed through.  So I am now sitting down and I will post a quick recap of the past three weekends.Three weekends ago, Megan and I went golfing at MegaPlay and then sat down and enjoyed some shakes at Dairy Queen (very similar to my date with Kade).  (All photos)

Megan setting up her shot

Two weekends ago, Mat and I went out for lunch at McDonald's and then went (can you guess) golfing at MegaPlay.  I've got to start rotating the location because three weeks of doing basically the same thing gets a little old to me although it's something new to each child.  All photos

Uh, I think you missed

Last weekend Kade and I really mixed it up.  Thanks to an outstanding suggestion from Kelly, we stopped at the downtown library and borrowed a pass to the College Football Hall of Fame.  So instead of paying $9 for myself to get in, it was completely FREE.  Sweet!  We had a really good time.  Kade enjoyed the participation activities quite a bit.  He kicked, passed, and blocked.  He also took a couple of really good photos while I was having my turn at these events.  We made a quick stop in the gift shop and picked up a little stress reliever football and then headed out onto the outdoor partial football field.  Kade loved this.  He ran all over the place with his new football.  Afterwards we stopped at the South Bend Chocolate Cafe.  All photos

3 Seconds of Fame

I didn't get the whole 15 minutes worth, but I do feel good about leading off the video clip for what is currently the top story at WSBT. Yesterday I was making a quick stop at the library when I saw someone being interviewed by a local news crew. So I dawdled around long enough to make sure that I was walking past while they weren't interviewing anyone, just hoping that they would ask me. Yeah right, what really happened was just bad timing on my part. I walked past just seconds after they had finished with someone else and I knew I was done for. The reporter (Kelli), asked me if they could ask me some questions. Me being kind of cautious said, "About what?" (probably with a funny look on my face) She said something about thefts inside cars, so I decided what the heck. The questions weren't too bad and I tried hard to think about my response before just blurting out some incoherent random statement. Of course I did leave the interview hoping that one particular statement was not the one they picked to show. Luckily it wasn't.

So here is the story and on the page there is a link to watch the video. Now where's my agent?

Daylight Savings

Why do we have daylight savings time?  I don't understand why it's still in practice.  For me I don't save anything.  I loose an hour of sleep and have a hard time adjusting to get to sleep earlier, it's no longer light in the morning, and the kids don't want to go to bed because it's still light out.  We used to be on Indiana time which meant we had it good.  We didn't have to remember to move our clocks back or forward, we didn't have the sun up at 10 o'clock at night, and we took turns being on Eastern and Central time.  Thanks to our terrible governor everything changed.  (I'll admit when I see the "Ditch Mitch" bumper stickers I whole heartedly agree.)

Saturday night Mickey went around changing everyone's clock to make us ready for Sunday.  I tried to go to bed early since the clock said 11 but I couldn't sleep.  My body's too smart to trick it.  Everyone was grouchy the next morning.  I got the girls up for school this morning and I really don't like that it's so dark again while they're at the bus stop.  With it still being dark I just wanted to climb back into bed after they left.  I did.  Does anyone else have a problem adjusting to the new time?

Family Movie Night

On Friday we watched a good family movie.  I was surprised this movie only had one bad word in it, stupid.  It was repeated a few times but when it was said a character always said it was a mean word.  Love that! since that's not a word we use in our house.  This movie had something for everyone:  football, ballet, a blossoming relationship, comedy, and a bulldog in a tutu.  Want to know what the movie was?  It was Game Plan.

Is it too early for Spring?

A little while after the girls came home from school (it was a half day), Megan very excitedly told me that she saw a robin while at the bus stop this morning. She said that means Spring is coming. I told her I really hope so. I hope that little bird knows what is really going on and didn't come prematurely. I'm SO ready for Spring and I'm sure everyone else here is too. Come on Spring!
