Have you ever played scrabble?  It's not one of my favorite games but it does help keep my brain working.  If you've played the game you know it can take a while to play.  Mickey introduced me to a version of the game we can play when we have a free minute sometime in the day.

He and I can play each other, him on his iPhone and me on the iPad, using the iPhone app for Scrabble.  We're on our third game, me winning the first and him winning the second.  He's also playing games with four other people!  Talk about multi-tasking.

math homework

This was Mat's homework today.  She has been working really hard at learning the multiplication table.  This week, and the next two weeks, we have some extra time between dropping off Meg and Mat at their different schools.  Yesterday we took advantage of the time by coming up with a menu for the rest of the week.  Today we worked on multiplying by 7.  By the time she got out of the "blue bus" she knew up to 12, which is what the teacher requires.  I guess we'll work on 8 tomorrow.  This extra time will be beneficial to her math skills.  Maybe Kade will pick up on some too.  He's already adding.

Slinky, Slinky

Yesterday we had to run to the store early in the morning for something for Kade to take for show and tell.  He and I were still in our pjs.  I don't usually do that kind of thing.  He was supposed to bring in something about space (we have some cool stuff from the Kennedy Space Center but of course it's buried in the storage unit) or something that starts with the letter S.  We ended up getting a slinky.  CVS didn't have anything space related and I didn't have time to run to Walmart since I had to get Mattey to school.

Kade was thrilled with the slinky.  He has been playing with it non-stop.  Yesterday he learned how to make it "walk" down the stairs.  I had him do it again for me today so I could get a picture.

Slinky, Slinky

Check out his spiked hair.  He and Mickey got haircuts this afternoon while Meg was at practice and I took Mat to the orthodontist.  What a crazy afternoon we had.  The evening calmed down with a dinner of lasagna and some scripture reading.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

We had the closing on our house today, the old one.  There was some kind of scheduling conflict so the buyers had gone in earlier in the day to sign and then we showed up later to do our part.  I was surprised I didn't get the least bit emotional.  I guess I'm really ready to move on.  After we signed our names about 8 times we were handed a nice check.  We made a detour at the bank to deposit it before picking up the kids.  Maybe it will make us some nice interest in the next two weeks.

I'd like to say that we went out to eat to celebrate but really we ate at Chick-Fil-A to support Meg's school.  It was nice to not cook though.

Three Little Monkeys

This afternoon the weather was so beautiful I had to send the kids outside to play.  I couldn't resist sending them out to a luscious green yard and inviting lake.  (They were told to stay away from the lake though.  It's not that warm.)  They ran around chasing each other and rolled down a hill.  (Yes, there are grass stains on Kade's pants.  Thank goodness for Tide.)  Then they wandered over to the neighbors' tree to swing.  We'll have to go ask permission tomorrow.  Oops.

Three Little Monkeys

I'm sure our three weeks here will fly by for the kids if they can play outside everyday.  I loved the fact that I could start dinner and watch them at the same time.  I'll be able to do that in the new house too.  Yay!

How Much is Too Much

I can't wait for Mickey to set up the mac so I don't have to blog from his phone anymore.
After church we stopped by the house to pick up a few things that needed to be moved elsewhere. I feel like we have stuff all over town. With the few boxes we took to the storage unit there is barely any room left. I can't believe we have so much stuff (crap). I suppose it could be worse. We could have horded away all the things the kids ever had. Oh, please do not let me turn into that person. Looking at the storage unit makes me want to purge even more stuff. I'm sure we'll find more items to donate when we unpack. I wish you could see all twenty five feet of the unit. It's quite a sight.

Temporary Home

We are almost all moved out. There's a few things left to find a place for. Thanks to Amanda and Chris for helping with the move and Betty for taking the kids when they were...bored. We had a LONG and busy day and now we're settling in in our tempoary home. The kids had a little difficulty settling down for the night but they are now all asleep. Time for us to get some sleep too.

Family Movie Night

This post will be short and sweet because the guest author really should be packing. Instead I, the self proclaimed Mac geek, have spent the last 30 - 45 minutes trying to get a picture from my computer to my phone. Unsuccessful, the POTD is going to be a picture of a picture which will have to do.

This would have been much easier if AT&T wouldn't have canceled our service a day early. Ugh!

Tonight we watched Astro Boy in our very vacant living room. I decided to go out with a bang by watching FMN using the projector on the wall. It was fun but I wish the wall was white. The kids enjoyed making shadows after the show and I got them all to pose.

A First for Kade

This morning Kade came and showed me how loose his tooth was.  (It's been loose for at least six months.  In the last few days it has been getting more wiggly.)  He opened his mouth and I didn't have to touch the tooth to see how loose it was.  It was almost sitting horizontal and forward.  I asked him if he'd been wiggling it and he said no.  He had been eating his (solid) chocolate rabbit.  That would explain all the blood I saw at the roots.  I mentioned that he might be able to get it out if he pushed it back.  Next thing you know...his tooth is in his hand and he had a surprised look on his face.  (Wish I could have captured that.)  Mickey had come home early to do some packing so he got to witness the excitement.  Something he usually misses.

Lost a Tooth

A little bit later Kade started crying.  I asked what was wrong and he told me he wasn't ready to loose a tooth yet.  I told him it was just how things go and he'd get a new tooth soon to replace the one he lost.  It took him a while to be distracted and get over it.  He was excited about putting the tooth under his pillow for the Tooth Fairy.  He went right to sleep.  Amazing.

Ah...Just What I Needed

With all the stress that's going on right now I was so looking forward to my massage today.  Even though the massage is only an hour I have to take 2 hours out of my day to get it.  But I enjoy every minute of it.  I listen to music and sing along while I drive.  That makes the time go faster, until I get behind a slow driver, that is.

Nicole is my (really our, since Mickey started going to her first) masseuse.  She is smaller then me but she has super strong hands to work out my many, many knots.  She works out of her home and has a room set aside for her clients.  It's so relaxing.  Take a look for yourself.  (You'll have to imagine music in the background and it's toasty warm from the space heater.)

A note about moving and the new house:

We have moved out about 80% of our stuff.  Mickey lined up a bunch of guys to help out with all the big, heavy stuff today.  Of the stuff that's left about a third will go with us to Mickey's aunt and uncle's.  The rest needs to be taken apart before it can go anywhere.  That's a project Mickey and Chris will work on tomorrow.

This morning we got to be present for the inspection of the new house.  There are only a few minor things that need to get fixed.  That's good to know.  We are counting down the days until we get to move in.  I've heard from a few people about wanting see the house (a picture).  I'll post it the day we move in.  I don't want to jinx anything.

Clay Fire Station #1

Going to the fire house is a very informing field trip.  That's where Kade's class went this morning.  I drove the "blue bus" with a few extra kids.  At the fire house we learned where the firemen/women slept, ate, did laundry, exercised, and watched tv.  We were given a tour of the "garage" where all the fire trucks are housed.  Kade went in one.  The most interesting thing I learned was that if you like to leave your things lying around on the floor then you should be a fireman because they are allowed.

I know, I know.  Their pants and boots are left there to save them on time.  I just thought it was funny to see them laying there.  I mean they're grow adults, well physically anyway, and they're supposed to leave their belongings on the floor and draped on the trucks.

In all honesty it was a very nice field trip.  I hope the kids learned something.  The moms sure seemed to enjoy it and asked lots of questions.  We watched a (slowed down) demonstration on how they put on their gear.  Can you believe the gears weighs 75 pounds!?  That's a lot of weight and that's before they get wet.  The captain said the record time for putting on gear, at least around here, is 38 seconds.  Wow, that's fast.  After the demo the kids were let loose to try on the equipment.  I think it'll be a while before Kade will grow into them.

Just a little too big

No More Mop

This may only be humorous to a couple of people.

A few years ago our friends were moving away, that's the story of our life.  I helped pack up their apartment on a Friday night and Mickey took the girls the next morning to load a truck and clean the apartment.  Somehow Megan came home with a mop.  Did it even have the sponge thing on it?  I can't remember.  I just know that it had seen better days.  (I believe Meg rescued it from going to the trash.)  Well, as Mickey was packing up the garage today he came across that mop.  (Yes, Janel, we still have it.)  Mickey said it was not going to survive this move.

Out With the Mop

He took a hack saw to it and it found it's way to the trash can.  It was nice knowing you, mop.

Scooper Dooty

Only one picture got taken today so I'll have to make it work.  We went to Chris and Amanda's house to drop off a few things for them to "hold" for us while we're between houses.  They shared their dinner with us and we took fixings for strawberry shortcake. While there the kids wanted to play outside.  Someone jokingly said they could clean up the dog poop in the yard.  Kade got right to work.

Pooper Scopper

Where was he when we had Cooper?  Oh, yeah.  He wasn't born yet.

The kids are talking and talking about getting another dog.  Part of me wouldn't mind.  The other part, the part that knows I'll have to do all or most of the work, doesn't really want to.  But maybe they are getting old enough to actually help out.  I'll have to think about it a while and get settled in the new house.  Them going back to school in the fall might be an ideal time to get one since I'll be home alone.  But then I won't be free.  See?  Lots of things to think about.

Ball Park Clean Up

It's that time of year to clean up the ball park and get it ready for months of games.  That's what we did this morning.  Meg had practice at 8 and then the clean up started at 10.  We showed up to help out.  I never got a picture of Meg because she was off with team mates working, or talking.  Mickey, the reds, and I raked and bagged leaves.  A couple of Mat's friends from school were there.  That helped her enjoy the work more.

LIttle League Clean Up

It was so windy.  As soon as you had a nice pile of leaves they would start blowing away.  Of course it was the opposite direction of where the bag was.  At least the sun was out.

Something besides Moving

I'm ready for a different topic.  How about you?

This afternoon I heard Kade say, "Mom, come take the picture of the day of me."  (He's got the program down, don't you think?)  I turned to Mickey, who had come home for lunch, and said, "No wonder he's in so many POTDs.  He's the most willing subject to be photographed."  I made him smores after lunch.  He was eating them when the suggestion was made.  I couldn't resist, just to please him.  He thought the stringy marshmallow was photo worthy.  I thought the cute, but messy, face with freckles was photo worthy.

Take my picture

I also wanted to share a picture of our crabapple tree.  It's finally blooming.  The only reason I wanted to plant the tree.

Answered Prayers

We got a house!

Thanks to everyone who prayed for us to find a house.  We found it Tuesday when it went on the market.  Viewed it for 30 minutes on Wednesday and made an offer.  Today the offer was accepted.  We are just thrilled to finally have a place to live.  It has everything we'd ever think to ask for and tons of space to grow in to.  It's also in a subdivision I've always liked.

Prayers are heard and answered.  Thanks again to everyone.

Back to packing....

Dirty Dishes

dirty dishes

This is what's in the kitchen sink right now.  Over the weekend the dishwasher decided to stop taking in water, meaning it doesn't work.  That's so nice when we'll be turning over the house in a week and a half.  My brother, B, said he'd take a look at it.  Who knows we might need a new one.  Anyone know of a good deal on an inexpensive dishwasher?  Meanwhile I get to do the dishes by hand.  Love that.  Last night Mickey dried while I washed.  That makes it a lot more tolerable and we got done quickly.  And since work needed to be done the kids disappeared.  Okay they were really outside running around waiting to take Meg to practice.  We enjoyed the quiet.

No Longer Edible

This is what happens when you're showing your house and you forgot you put (hid) cornbread in a cabinet where it doesn't belong.

Moldy Cornbread

Pretty disgusting, huh?  I guess today was a day for moldy food.  I also found some cupcakes from Kade's birthday and the shortcake I made last week was moldy too.  Maybe my housekeeping skills are going down hill.  Maybe I'm a little preoccupied with packing up the house and finding somewhere to live.  Probably the second.

Perfect Combination

In my opinion (and probably my family's too) this is one of many perfect combinations.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Pampered Chef baking stone and Nestle Toll House cookie dough.  Yum.  We had these for a treat tonight.

What are your perfect combinations?

Sunday, Sunday

What can I say about today?  Not much.  Mickey had meetings all day.  I made a fruit plate for him to take so they wouldn't be starving.  A couple other wives sent stuff too.

The kids all enjoyed their classes at church.  I made them all have quiet time after lunch.  And one of them slept for an hour.  He really, really needed the nap.  Wish I could have joined him.

I have been using these for most of the day.  (I know this is a lame picture but I couldn't come up with anything since I missed my photo opp. of Mickey in his meeting.  This was Mickey's suggestion.)

April 11th

I guess I have a cold because I have been sneezing like crazy which makes my nose run.  I only sneeze when I get a cold.  I think I'm going to try to go to bed early tonight.  Maybe that will help.

While in Detroit...

We decided we couldn't pass up a trip to the temple since it was only 25 minutes from our hotel.  Much nicer than 2 hours and Chicago traffic.

It was so nice to spend most of today with my husband, alone.  We could actually talk to each other.  What a concept.  And we also enjoyed not talking and having it be quiet.

Thanks to Mike and Betty for keeping the wild kids.  I'm sure they're going to bed early tonight and will be taking a nap tomorrow to recover from their weekend.

SNC Concert

We are sitting in our seats at the Royal Oak Music Theater waiting for the Straight No Chaser concert to begin.

If you don't know who they are, just type their name in YouTube's search box and be prepared to be amazed.

Added April 10th.

The concert was AWESOME.  We loved it.  I could listen to them sing all day.  We were a little mad about one thing though.  The tickets said no cameras (see below).  So being the good rule abiding people we are, we didn't take the camera in.  At the intermission there was an announcement that said SNC's policy is to allow pictures and videos to be taken.  (After all youtube is how they got to be were they are now.)  Mickey recorded a few songs with his phone.  Not sure how well they turned out.  We could have recorded the entire show.  Now I'll have to see them again so I can.  I found a few videos someone else got.  Here.  Here.  And here.

Here's the picture I was going to use yesterday but the WiFi at the hotel was so s-l-o-w I couldn't post with the iPad.

And I'm not talking about the candy or the floatation devise.

This little cup came to the rescue today.  It saved me from doing more laundry.  It saved the van from another cleaning.  It saved Kade from embarrassment and humiliation.  Can you see where I'm going with this?

This morning we looked at five houses.  (Not one was a winner.)  As we started pulling away from the last house Kade starts to panic, saying he really has to go potty.  What are we supposed to do?  There's nothing available but trees.  If it were our house I would have let him.  But we're in someone else's neighborhood and it's raining.  He couldn't hold it.  You could clearly see that on his face.  I asked if there were any cups in the van.  The girls looked and said no.  Kade then remembered that he shoved one in the back of the seat yesterday.  I climbed in the back to help hold the "toilet" while he relieved himself.  That totally grossed the girls out.  Meg climbed into the way back away from all the action.  Both girls either looked away or covered their eyes saying what big sisters say.  Meanwhile, Mickey and I are trying not to crack up.  I did empty the cup on the side of the road.  He almost filled it!  The rain will wash it away.  Then we couldn't help ourselves.  We were laughing and laughing.  This was a good way to end another frustrating day of house hunting.

Trip to Indy

Yesterday morning we left for two days in Indianapolis.  We needed to get away for the kids' spring break and also take a break from all the stressful house hunting.  We had a nice time.  The weather yesterday was great.  Sunny, 80s, and some wind.  Perfect for going to the zoo.  Here's the picture I should have used for yesterday.

Petting a shark

They actually let you pet the sharks.  I touched one.  It was weird feeling.

Today we took the kids to the Children's Museum.  We haven't been in a while.  In the beginning it was good.  All the kids were happy.  Here's the proof.

Indianapolis Children's Museum

But the longer we were there the grouchier everyone got.  Some of it was that they (okay, all of us) could have used more sleep.  (We stayed at a great Homewood Suites.  They had an indoor pool.  The kids got to burn off extra energy swimming last night and this morning.  The hotel was also on Meridian.  If you've been to Indy you know that's the main street.  The traffic was LOUD until about midnight.)  Back to the museum.  It was crowded.  The kids were getting tired.  They also had to take turns looking at the exhibits which was boring for some of them.  They were ready to go about halfway through.  We stuck it out and rewarded ourselves with a trip down a big slide and some ice cream.

When I'm not stressed out and busy (not sure when that will be) I will take an hour to look through all 269 pictures I took the last two days and then post a link to them.

As for right now, I'm going to climb into bed so I can have enough energy to go house hunting, again.

A Little Bit Geek

At the end of last year Mickey told me about some new products Apple was coming out with.  I let it go through one ear and out the other like I usually do when it comes to computer stuff.  I did tune in more when he started talking about some tablet or whatever that was a bigger version of the iPhone but without the phone.  That sounded like something I would be interested in.  (The iPhone is too small for me to use well and I rarely use a cell phone so I didn't want an iPhone.)  In January he told me about the announcement for the iPad.  I watched the announcement, all hour and 45 minutes worth.  I was hooked.  I wanted an iPad.

Saturday morning we had gone to look at a house and we decided to stop by Best Buy on the way home to see if they had any left in stock.  I waited in the car with the kids while Mickey ran in.  He was in for a while so I assumed he either couldn't get any help or they had one.  I was thrilled when I saw him walking out with a box in hand.  I think Mickey's geekiness is rubbing off on me.  I have played with the iPad and love it.  I love that I can calendar everyone's activities, watch movies, check and send e-mail, look at pictures, surf the net, read books (I downloaded 20 free books!), and play games all with one devise.  And it's portable unlike the iMac in the basement I love to use.

If you know me at all you will know that I needed to make a little cover for the new toy.  I went to work last night.  I still need to add a little something to it but other than that it's finished.  It will help me hide and protect my geeky toy.

A little geekiness

Six Down....

...and only hundreds to go.  Do you know what I'm talking about?  I'll give you a hint.

Six Down...

I had hoped to get many more boxes packed but this packing thing is a little intimidating.  I'm having a hard time figuring out where to start.  The organizer in me wants to pack all related things together and get all said items done at once.  That doesn't really work when you still need a few things to live for the next 3 weeks.  This will be a challenge but once I get going I'm sure I'll get in a groove and get at least twice (hopefully triple) this packed everyday.  If not that last week of April will be really stressful.

We had a very laid back first day of Spring Break.  Tomorrow will be more fun.  Details to follow in the next few days.

Happy Easter

I took lots of pictures today but thought this one was the most fitting when I reflect about the real meaning of Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

April 4th

(Not sure what kind of flower this is but the tree is growing in the yard of my parents' neighbor.)

I woke up to "grass" all over the house.  The kids had gotten into their baskets and ate candy for breakfast.  I later made cinnamon rolls.  (I didn't think they'd had enough sugar yet.)  We later had a nice dinner at my parents' house with lots of family.  The kids enjoyed the lovely weather while hunting eggs.  I'm sure they each ate enough candy to last them for a few weeks but we'll let them eat it all until they get sick.  Then it won't be sitting around tempting me.

Hope everyone had a good Easter.

Eggs, Eggs,...and Some Other Stuff

White Eggs

What do you do with a bunch of white eggs the night before Easter?  Why you make them pretty, of course.

Colored Eggs

We did this after a l-o-n-g day.  We watched both sessions of conference.  I ran to the store in between, in the rain, to get a few last minute things.  We had a quick dinner.  Then went to Ritter's for a treat for family date.  After the eggs were done I cut both girls' hair.  (You know, I think I do better than the place we take them to and I'm free.)  I finally got them in bed and now I'm going to relax and try to make my achy body do the same.

Burgers on the Grill

Tonight we had burgers on the grill.  Yum.  Food tastes so much better on the grill.  Some of us like our burgers with cheese.  Some don't.  I prefer my burger to be turkey topped with Swiss.  How do you like yours?

April 1st

I couldn't come up with a good April Fool's joke for today.  Darn.  I don't think the kids really got into it either.

Anyway....We got the report back from the inspection.  We had to bring a few minor things up to code.  We had to go buy three of these.

April 1st

It is now code to have a smoke detector in every bedroom.  So I guess the one that is in the hall, just 2-1/2 feet away from everyone's bedroom, is now obsolete.

This evening Kade decided that he couldn't let the day go by without pulling a prank.  We were coming home from driving by a house and he PUKED all over the back of the van.  What a nice trick that was.  Thanks to Mickey for cleaning it up.  I'm still a little nauseous just from the smell.
